How to Move House With Your Cat

Moving house with your cat requires careful planning and consideration to minimise stress and ensure their safety and well-being throughout the process.

Preparing Your Cat for the Move

Before the big day, take the time to prepare your cat for the upcoming move. Here’s how:

  • Gradual Introduction to Carriers: If your cat isn’t accustomed to carriers, introduce them gradually by placing treats and familiar items inside.
  • Updating Identification: Ensure your cat’s ID tags and microchip information are up to date with your new address and contact details.
  • Maintaining Routine: Stick to your cat’s regular feeding and playtime schedule as much as possible to provide a sense of stability.
  • Creating a Safe Space: Set up a quiet, comfortable space in your new home where your cat can retreat and feel secure.

Packing Essentials for Your Cat

When packing for the move, don’t forget to include essential items to keep your cat comfortable and relaxed:

  • Favourite Toys and Blankets: Familiar items can help provide a sense of security during the transition.
  • Enough Food and Water: Make sure you have an ample supply of your cat’s regular food and fresh water.
  • Medications and Veterinary Records: Keep any necessary medications and your cat’s medical records handy in case of emergencies.
  • Litter Box and Litter: Pack your cat’s litter box and enough litter to last for the duration of the move.

Traveling Safely With Your Cat

During the journey to your new home, prioritise your cat’s safety and comfort:

  • Secure Carrier: Keep your cat secure in a well-ventilated carrier, and never allow them to roam freely in the car.
  • Regular Breaks: Take frequent breaks during long journeys to offer your cat water, food, and bathroom breaks.
  • Calming Techniques: Consider using pheromone sprays or calming supplements to help alleviate your cat’s stress during travel.

Settling Into Your New Home

Once you’ve arrived at your new home, help your cat acclimate to their new surroundings:

  • Designated Safe Space: Set up a cozy area with familiar items where your cat can gradually explore and feel safe.
  • Gradual Introduction: Introduce your cat to one room at a time, allowing them to adjust slowly to their new environment.
  • Patience and Reassurance: Be patient with your cat as they navigate their new surroundings, offering plenty of love and reassurance along the way.

Second time I've used White Rose. First class service, friendly and helpful guys and looked my stuff well. They did my move over 2 days during the hottest days of the year so all credit to them. I would definitely use White Rose again if needed and would recommend them.

I am wholly satisfied by their work, packing and moving all my furniture and effects. Every member of the team worked efficiently, and they were all a pleasure to have around. I’m hoping never to have to move again, but if I do I’d book White Rose again without a doubt.

Could not fault! After trying a couple of local firms for quotes I was sold after speaking with Paul on the phone. His customer service was second to none. The actual move itself was seamless, the boys arrived early and were loaded so quick considering the heat! They worked tirelessly at both ends of the job. Massive thanks- especially working so hard in the heatwave we’re experiencing.

They were exceptional from start to finish and really helped put our minds at ease throughout.A quick quote with a thorough breakdown of how things would play out, constant communication in the build up and the team doing the move were brilliant — they took absolute care over every detail of our stuff, professional, polite, funny. The whole thing was made so much easier thank to them. I would highly recommend them for your move.

From initial contact with Paul to the delivery of the contents of our house the service provided was excellent. This was a very challenging move as the destination was fairly inaccessible and had to involve a shuttle from the main road to the house on a hill. The 1st van got stuck in mud and they had to push it out before being able to continue. Jake went above and beyond when he chased our escapee chow chow a mile round the streets and across a busy main road until final capture involving outdoor workmen. Respectful, polite, efficient, hard working with a can do attitude at a competitive price what more does a customer need at this most stressful of times! Wishing you all the very best for a successful 2022!
