Moving house is a significant life event that can be both exciting and challenging. While you prepare for the big move, it’s essential not to overlook the needs and well-being of your pets. As a responsible pet owner, you want to make the transition as stress-free as possible for your beloved animals. This article provides a comprehensive guide with eight tips for moving house with pets, ensuring a seamless move for everyone involved.

Planning Ahead

Create a Pet Relocation Plan

Moving with pets requires careful planning. Start by creating a detailed pet relocation plan. This plan should include finding pet-friendly accommodations, mapping out rest stops during long drives, and scheduling necessary vet appointments. Having a clear plan in place will reduce anxiety for both you and your pets.

Update Pet Identification

Before the move, ensure your pet’s identification is up to date. Update their ID tags with your new address and contact information. Consider getting your pet microchipped if they aren’t already. This extra precaution can help reunite you with your pet if they ever get lost during the move.

Packing and Preparation

Maintain Routine

Pets thrive on routine. Amidst the chaos of packing, try to maintain your pet’s daily schedule as closely as possible. This includes regular feeding times, play sessions, and walks. Consistency can provide a sense of stability for your pets during this transitional period.

Pack a Pet Essentials Kit

Prepare a special kit for your pets, including their favorite toys, bedding, food, and water bowls. Having these familiar items readily available can provide comfort and reassurance to your pets in unfamiliar surroundings.

Moving Day

Secure Your Pet

On moving day, keep your pets secure in a designated area away from the hustle and bustle. Consider confining them to a quiet room with their essentials, ensuring their safety and reducing stress. This will also prevent them from getting underfoot during the move.

Arrival at Your New Home

Pet-Proof Your New Space

Before allowing your pets to explore your new home, make sure it’s pet-proofed. Check for any potential hazards or escape routes. Secure windows and doors to prevent accidents.

Gradual Introduction

Allow your pets to adjust gradually to their new surroundings. Start by introducing them to one room at a time, giving them time to acclimate. Be patient, and provide plenty of positive reinforcement.

Second time I've used White Rose. First class service, friendly and helpful guys and looked my stuff well. They did my move over 2 days during the hottest days of the year so all credit to them. I would definitely use White Rose again if needed and would recommend them.

I am wholly satisfied by their work, packing and moving all my furniture and effects. Every member of the team worked efficiently, and they were all a pleasure to have around. I’m hoping never to have to move again, but if I do I’d book White Rose again without a doubt.

Could not fault! After trying a couple of local firms for quotes I was sold after speaking with Paul on the phone. His customer service was second to none. The actual move itself was seamless, the boys arrived early and were loaded so quick considering the heat! They worked tirelessly at both ends of the job. Massive thanks- especially working so hard in the heatwave we’re experiencing.

White Rose just helped us move from London to Yorkshire, last minute, with a newborn and a cat. They were exceptional from start to finish and really helped put our minds at ease throughout.A quick quote with a thorough breakdown of how things would play out, constant communication in the build up and the team doing the move were brilliant — they took absolute care over every detail of our stuff, professional, polite, funny. The whole thing was made so much easier thank to them. I would highly recommend them for your move.

From initial contact with Paul to the delivery of the contents of our house the service provided was excellent. This was a very challenging move as the destination was fairly inaccessible and had to involve a shuttle from the main road to the house on a hill. The 1st van got stuck in mud and they had to push it out before being able to continue. Jake went above and beyond when he chased our escapee chow chow a mile round the streets and across a busy main road until final capture involving outdoor workmen. Respectful, polite, efficient, hard working with a can do attitude at a competitive price what more does a customer need at this most stressful of times! Wishing you all the very best for a successful 2022!
