Where to Live in Leeds?

Like any city, where you decide to live depends on your budget, the location, the type of home you’d like, and your lifestyle. We’ve put our top choices in this list for places to live in Leeds, and we hope one of these really sounds like the home for you!

Horsforth has been consistently called one of the best places to live in Yorkshire. It’s a suburb located just west of Leeds. Here, you’ll find young professionals and families. It almost feels like you’re out in the country and there’s a great community spirit here. You’d never know that Horsforth is just a 15-minute train ride from the city’s centre.

Residents love to take advantage of the green spaces here, such as Horsforth Hall Park, which offers a bustling high street and some great indie shops. There’s also an 18-hole golf course and Kirkstall Abbey is only a few miles away.

Roundhay is about a five-minute drive from the Leeds’s centre. This place offers all the benefits of central living with a community feel. The high street offers a great mix of chain and indie shops, with cafes, bars, and pubs for those who enjoy the city centre.

You’ll also find Roundhay Park here, which is one of the largest parks in Europe. It contains several lakes, green spaces, gardens, and woodland. It’s the perfect place for family picnics, walking the dog, and more.

Chapel Allerton

Chapel Allerton is often referred to as the “Notting Hill of the North.” This area is a quaint suburb located about 11 minutes from central Leeds. Many people love to live here due to the fast commute. Here, again, the area is popular with young professionals and families.

This is a charming area that’s great for family life. It offers amazing schools and plenty of independent delis, cafes, and restaurants.

Shadwell has a more rural feel, and you may think you’re miles away from the city there. But the truth is that it’s only 6 miles from the city’s centre. The village is home to a pub, a few fish and chips shops, and a post office.

Half a mile away, Slaid Hill offers residents more amenities, such as a dry cleaner, bakery, and the Shadwell Tandoori Indian restaurant (which we’ve heard is pretty good!).

Leeds Waterfront

Would you prefer a more central location? If so, you may want to check out Leeds Waterfront. This area has renovated warehouses and character properties, along with cobbled streets and plenty of charm. The area offers residents a slice of calm in the midst of the busy city.

Here, you won’t have to go far to visit pubs, bars, restaurants, and shops in the central location. And you’ll have access to excellent transportation links to the rest of the city and the surrounding areas. The best part is that this area also offers stunning views of the River Aire.

Second time I've used White Rose. First class service, friendly and helpful guys and looked my stuff well. They did my move over 2 days during the hottest days of the year so all credit to them. I would definitely use White Rose again if needed and would recommend them.

I am wholly satisfied by their work, packing and moving all my furniture and effects. Every member of the team worked efficiently, and they were all a pleasure to have around. I’m hoping never to have to move again, but if I do I’d book White Rose again without a doubt.

Could not fault! After trying a couple of local firms for quotes I was sold after speaking with Paul on the phone. His customer service was second to none. The actual move itself was seamless, the boys arrived early and were loaded so quick considering the heat! They worked tirelessly at both ends of the job. Massive thanks- especially working so hard in the heatwave we’re experiencing.

White Rose just helped us move from London to Yorkshire, last minute, with a newborn and a cat. They were exceptional from start to finish and really helped put our minds at ease throughout.A quick quote with a thorough breakdown of how things would play out, constant communication in the build up and the team doing the move were brilliant — they took absolute care over every detail of our stuff, professional, polite, funny. The whole thing was made so much easier thank to them. I would highly recommend them for your move.

From initial contact with Paul to the delivery of the contents of our house the service provided was excellent. This was a very challenging move as the destination was fairly inaccessible and had to involve a shuttle from the main road to the house on a hill. The 1st van got stuck in mud and they had to push it out before being able to continue. Jake went above and beyond when he chased our escapee chow chow a mile round the streets and across a busy main road until final capture involving outdoor workmen. Respectful, polite, efficient, hard working with a can do attitude at a competitive price what more does a customer need at this most stressful of times! Wishing you all the very best for a successful 2022!
